The trout are aplenty, the leaves and twigs are more aplenty, the snags are out of this world.  The fall is a great time to fish but with every silver cloud is a touch of gray (SNAGS).  Here are a few things you can do to cut down on snags.

1) Use hook-up flies such as small clousers (a year round great trout fly), small bendbacks (use a swimming mayfly hook), and/or regular patterns on 60 degree jig hooks.

2) Tie your go-to patterns upsidedown on the hook and weight the ventral side of the fly with lead, epoxy, or something else so the hook flips.

3) (my least favorite) More split shot with non-beaded flies.  The split shot gets the flies down while the lighter flies are more bouyant.

See if any of these things help.

I am having a weekend special on hooks:  Not only will the bargain wall be recharged, but if you buy two 50 or 100 packs of Mustad hooks in stock, you get the third free (mix and match).  This is big savings.  YOU MUST MENTION THE "BLOG SPECIAL" TO GET THE SALE. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday only!
