Saturday 1/24/2009 - 11:00am to 2:30pm - Fished White Clay Creek from Good Hope
rd. to Below London Track rd.
Was happy to see that I am not the only fly fishing not that was out yesterday,
as I met up with Ed G as I was gearing up. Ed and I fished a few spots
where we could find small (and I mean only a few feet long - small stretches) of
flowing water in front of the glaciers. I was fortunate to hook up and very
quickly lose a nice rainbow trout in the 2nd spot that we tried. I had tied a
streamer with black bucktail and black marabou w/ a few strands of gold flash
this morning. The fish was all the way up the run, sitting right below the
opening in the ice,,, he hit the streamer on about the 5th cast, just after I
pulled it out from under the ice. After two quick head shakes and bump against
the ice, he was free again!! (I think I even heard him bragging to his other
buddies about how he just kicked my frozen butt....) Anyway, Ed and I hit a few
more spots and then Ed needed to go. I continued to fish every sliver of moving
water that I could find ont he way down to the 2nd bend below the London Track
brigde and only had one more strike, but did not hook him. One good thiing
about the ice is that it makes getting down the creek much faster since you can
walk right down the down the middle without tripping on the rocks!!! Every
season has it's unique challenges,, the ice in January is one that I find very
challenging, but not impossible!!! See you soon,, bring your skates!!! -Jim

Re: More hard water
Please be extra careful "on the ice". It was reported to me that there was an emergency rescue on the creek this weekend with a slip and fall and a head injury.
