Attended the "big" fly show in Somersett NJ on Friday with a group of club members.  It was well attended and I was able to find a few items on my "list" of wants and needs.  It's a shame that the new store is not open yet, so I could have treated myself to my own store stock! More on that as developments happen.

Today my friend Dick P and I fished the White Clay Creek in PA. The nice weather conditions saw the air temp almost 50 and the water temp at 44 degrees.  A few other fishers were on the stream so we made our way - out of the way, and saw some action in the slower water.  Best flies today were a white bead head bugger, small size 16 hares ear and a syrendipity midge fished as a tandem.  Both rainbows and browns were brought to hand.

I am scheduled to do a presentation on the Common Cents System for fly rods at the White Clay Fly Fishers meeting this coming Tues night (1/17) at 7:00pm at the London Tract Meeting House in the Preserve, so for those of you interested in seeing this helpful information, stop by and learn how to get a balanced fly rod/line system for your present rods, and before you get a new rod.  The WCFF's welcome new vistors and a membership is only $25 a year, well worth the $$$ as the club has exciting programs, outing, and events year round.

Today my friend Ed N and I gave the White Clay Creek a try in PA.  We were on the creek mid morning and a few fishers had already fished the section of the creek we planned to fish so we gave it a try in a section I had fished  a few days earlier.  I try to fish different sections of the creek each outing as the fish sometimes get spooky when they see heavy pressure.  A lot of footprints on the banks tell me that extra fishers were trying their luck, probably over this past weekend.  Both Ed and I had some early success with nymphs size 12/14, green weenies (Ed), and golden retriever streamers (KP).  As the day progressed the fish decided to have a case of closed mouth and even with a cast that drifted across their noses - no takes.  Ed cristened his new custom three wt. rod,  and we quit after it started raining late in the day.

The fishing was hot this morning and the water was cold (40 degrees), but a hatch of small midges size 22/24 was going on.  I found the pupae was very effective and the fish flashed at a dead drifted offering almost every cast.  The majority of fish landed were browns, with a few rainbows mixed in. The pattern was a black zebra midge with a clear plastic bead at the head.

Spent a cold morning on the White Clay Creek in PA today. My footprints in the snow indicate I was the first one out in the section I fished.  Some fish were bunched up in the best pools unlike my previous trip.  They ate a beaver/mink brown gold ribbed nymph fished dead drifted on the bottom, most of the morning.  All rainbows and one nice 17" brown was the result in a short trip today.  Your 2012 license can be purchased for both PA and DE on line from this site.  Just look to the left column on this blog page under Our Friends.

Fished the Whte Clay Creek a Delaware River in PA this afternoon with my friend Des K and we had limited success fishing below Good Hope Road.  A lot people must have been on the stream over the New Years weekend based on the footprints on the banks.  The golden retriever accounted for one rainbow and a yellow version managed two more.  The fish were in good condition and the water was crystal clear.  I found about a dozen flies hanging from various branches too, supporting the heavy pressure the creek must have seen over the temperate weekend.  The water temp was 40 degrees at 3:30 today.

Merry Christmas to all.  I plan to  fish a grand venue tomorrow and will report on the success.  I hope to share the information shared over the holidays by those of you sending me reports. I also hope santa brought you fly fishing gear of your wishes.

The White Clay Creek in PA delayed harvest section gets a supplimental winter stocking later this winter thanks to the members and friends of the White Clay Fly Fishers generosity buying raffle tickets that support this stocking.  Congrads to the winners - (all of us for the opportunity to see more fish in the stream), but to Rick D and Ed G who won the prizes.
