Report are that the WCC is now fishing well for snapping turtles. Another large turtle was spotted above the London Tract Bridge. The report from Delaware FF section was a few fish reluctantly hitting a green weenie and some caddis surface action. Blue skies and high pressure today.
The early report from the beach was that Doug J cleaned them up at the Henlopen pier and a few of the White Clay Fly Fishers out-fished the Salt Water Anglers of Delaware on their home turf at the joint outing this morning. Rick D proportedly caught a small flatty and Ozzie M caught one and had a few more get off. Roger H had a few early morning hookups and landed two. It a great thing when fishers can get together for a fun day full of fish, friendship and food.

I fished the WCC at Good Hope Road and found almost no fish at the Big Rock. I first thought maybe the poaching had started again, but a few minutes later I saw a giant rock moving about. The rock is a large snapping turtle and that means where he is there will be no fish hanging around. I managed one fish out from under the tree below the rock. Black ghost steamer size 12.

The WCC in the PA DH section continues to fish well even as the stream flow has fallen to 47 cfs slightly lower than the mean flow of 67 cfs for this time of the season. The water has cleared and you can see the fish - and they can see you, so stay back and use a stealthy approach for best success. I continue to have good success with the dry/emerger sulfur today. The midges were hatching all morning and I saw a few caddis dancing near and under overhangs. Stop by the store and ask me about the daily tally today - it was impressive! And as a good steward they were all released to fight again another day.

This morning the fish were still on the bite, with the best flies fished wet. March brown wet flies accounted for two rainbows and dry/emerger sulfurs took three browns. The fish are onto the naturals and none of my attractors took fish today.

I got a wet and windy introduction to the trout this morning. On a falling barometer and less than ideal conditions I managed just two trout today. The fish were following the offerings but reluctant to strike with any consistancy. Fish catching flies today were both nymphs - PT & Olive hares ear size 14. I did try out my newly re-soled shoes though.

My friend Joe A tied up a few special flies for me to try today and they worked great. The "F" style fly is tied with a body of pheasant tail fibres and a wing of CDC tied in F style. The fly looks and acts like a caddis and the trout wanted it today. Four nice fish - 3 browns and a rainbow all caught on the white version and the dun version. The WCC is still running rather silty for no apparent reason. In Delaware today, Ed O'D fished with my friend Sam and they got onto some numbers with a green weenie. Look for the inch worms hanging from the tree limbs on their fine silk threads and throw them a weenie! Got an hour to fish this morning and the "corn fed" caddis pattern in size 16 did the trick with both browns and rainbows fooled. A lot of crane fly adults were perched in the spiders web streamside. Try a large one drifted on the surface.

The caddis are still hatching and the surface activity is picking up with caddis, sulfurs and crane flies all taking trout on the top. The water toemp is up to 62 degrees on the WCC. Some additional 20 fish were taken in Delaware over the weekend (as reported to me). Two fishers showed up in the shop looking for me to weigh their trophys for a citation - we are not an official weigh station. Two less mega fish in the stream!

The windy conditions hampered casting but a nice emergence of caddis caused the fish to take flies that were skittered on the surface. Try a tan, olive or gray caddis adult in size 16. The WCC is settling into nice conditions and the fish are actually acting wild and selective.
