I fished with my friend Barry W on Deer Creek in the rain this morning. They liked the following flies: Deer Creek Raider, Yellow marabou streamer, Red marabou streamer, blue sparkler, and pink bead head circle streamer. Here is a few pix of the hickories caught.

Went out Saturday afternoon to DE side of White Clay. Fished from about 4pm - 8pm. Was a bit slow at first on an egg imitator; fishing picked up about 6pm when I switched over to a dark green bead head nymph. Any nymph dark green seemed to get them going, 2 nice keeper sized bows, 3 released and 5 lost on retrieve. --Matt (Bear, DE) Submitted By: Matt R

My friend Christie reminded me that some big stripers can be caught on the Susq flats. The shad are in and the catching is feverish. The WCC in DE & Pa are fully stocked with trout. Soooo many fishing opportunities and so little time. Oh my!

The shad are in and worth a trip to Deer Creek to give 'em a try. Get your Maryland license on line - go to the "Our Friends" box on the left of this blog for a quick link.

Add a few shad flies from White Clay Outfitters and be on the fish. See blog entries for the last week for good patterns and colors.

Had a late afternoon Sunday on the WCC on the DH in PA. Had the whole creek to myself. Caught quite a few fish on the top using crane fly imitations. The water temp is up to 53 degrees from our latest arly "heat wave". and the bug activity is increasing. Adult midges (trico), tan and brown caddis size 16/18 and baetis nymphs - PT with & w/o flashbacks are also working.

Deer Creek (MD) was down and the shad were getting thicker as the spawning run is starting to reach full swing. My friend Dick P and I took a walk to get away from the crowds at the typical spots and found the fish willing to hit brightly colored and flashy shad offerings. In one stretch Dick had six fish on six drifts. Pretty darn fun for a first timer!

The White Clay Creek, a Delaware River continues to fish well as stocking of fresh trout is scheduled for today and next Thursday. If you want to help stock, contact me and I will give you the information and meeting venue. Crane fly adults and larvae imitations have made the fishing exciting using these naturals. Trout have literally come out of the water chasing the dry- adult. Give them a try for some exciting top water action.

Deer Creek was running 1000 cfs and the water was half way up the bank. I fished with my friend Joe G from OC and the muddy fast water ruined a nice morning. The catch was limited to just a few fish. Better luck next time.

A few of you have asked to see some productive shad flies so here are a few that worked the past three outings:

While the WCC in DE continues to be shoulder to shoulder, I have opted for other venues. Today my friends Ed G, Keith B and I fished for shad, and while the main run is just starting we each managed a respectible number of fish. The best fly colors were, chartruese and white, red and yellow and red with flash. The streams will be feeling the effects of the rain events predicted for Monday so get out there today before any potential flooding moves the fish off the bite.
