Did not fish this morning. I had my three children in overnight preparing for their birthright trip out of the country this morning. Of course they were not packed, had misplaced some of their documents and various other issues that only children can manage, when they had the entire day before to prepare. They made it to the airport on time and will be on their way - while I get to work. Seems like it ought to be the other way around, huh!

It was reported to me that with the moderating temperatures today some of the anchor ice has become floating "icebergs". One fisher reported being hit in the legs by one of these floating hazards and although he was not hurt , you should be aware and look upstream from your fishing position when you are out in the open water.

The White Clay Creek, a Delaware River is still carrying anchor ice but the faster water sections are still fishing well. Today a wine colored woolly took a small brown and a copper john bead head trailing under a large gray wulff accounted for a rainbow. Had to report to the foot dr. today to follow up on my surgery, so I only had a little over an hour to fish. Try the PA delayed harvest section and take a walk away from any of the bridges to find some nice fish.

1-2-2009 3:30pm to 5:15pm - White Clay Delayed Harvest section: After thawing out my boots, I fished behind a fellow fly fisherman (Could have been an Ed G. sighting???),,, never caught up to him. Conditions were a little better than yesterday ( New Years Day morning),, as there was plenty of moving water and not as much ice clogging my guides today.... (yesterday morning was way too cold!!!),,, I managed to land my January 2009 fish today,, a nice rainbow that chased my small black marabou streamer w/ minimal gold flash. This one hit right at dusk!!! THE STREAK CONTINUES into 2009!!! Hope to see a few folks out over the weekend. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Submitted By: Jim D

The combo of cold and wind made this mornings outing just mean. One brown about 14" was all I could take. Be very careful if you are out on the stream as the anchor ice is fragile, sharp and creates a real hazard. Water was 36 degrees at 7:15 am this morning. I didn't want to walk far from the car so I chose to fish a spot close to where I parked , plus my shoes were frozen stiff from yesterdays outing. I had to unfreeze them before I could get 'em on today, so I need to remember to bring them inside, not just leave them in the car, with these colder conditions. Still have kept the skunk away for this whole year!

I gave it the old new years try and the ice in the guides won. I did manage two small browns in the hour or so I fished, and both fell for a wine colored copper bead bugger fished slow and enticingly in the flow above the Sharpless Road bridge. Water temp had fallen to 37 degrees with anchor ice forming again. Not shut out yet with a good start to the year 2009.

streamers today,,, but I did manage to pick up (3) nice fat rainbows on the
"golden egg" fly, also lost (2) others !!! A great way to end 2008 on the
White Clay Creek!!!! Happy New Year!!! Can't wait to keep the streak going in

Met with Dick P & Clyde S on the White Clay Creek in PA today. We fished a section of the DH with only marginal success. I managed a nice brown about 14" on an olive caddis emerger with one of the new gold tungsten nymph heads. Dick had several strikes but no hook ups. I directed Clyde to a nice hole but never made it back to see how he did. Looks like maybe one more nice day before the cold weather is on us again. Water temp was 40 degrees this morning - up slightly from the past week.

Good Morning WCO. Just a quick note here to let you know that on Sunday evening my nephew was in town. He stopped by and we went online and bought a 1 day fishing license for PA. As soon as the transaction completed, it started to rain. We proceeded to the London tract bridge anyway. The weather was definitely grey. It stopped raining so we put in upstream of the bridge and worked the drift down to the bridge. Visibility was poor, we didn't see any fish, but I knew they were there somewhere. There were 3 of us, all working different flys. We worked our way down to the "mudhole" with no luck. We were as stealthy as 3 people can be, but no luck. We all changed up flys, and tried something different. I was the first to get lucky. I hooked up with a 12" or so rainbow on a beaded egg. A few minu ...
