Flyfishing the Delaware sections of the White Clay Creek are not confined to the fly fishing only section of the creek in Delaware's White Clay Creek Preserve above Chambers Rock Road. Excellent fishing is done in the "bait" sections by fly rodders from the fly section to and below Hopkins Road.
Delaware fishing is also good at several of the dam locations and fly fishers have great success throwing flies in these areas. Tying flies, flyfishing your own flies and taking advantage of the opportunities fishing Delaware within the White Clay Creek can be an adventure. Although some sections of the creek are more urban, like those behind Cleveland Avenues' car malls, sections from Perkin's to Windy Hills hold promise. Some stream bank construction has improved Delaware fishing in the White Clay Creek where the stream parallels Kirkwood Highway.
Delaware fishing is improving all along the White Clay Creek out to the Christina. Unfortunately the sewage release this past spring that caused a large fish kill has ruined Delaware fishing in that area. Restocking should be the responsibility of the polluting owner, although none is planned at this writing. Delaware fishing in the White Clay Creek will be rejuvinated with the fall stocking planned for October. and the fly fishing section only will benefit from wash downs from PA.
