You asked for them and we have developed a number of fly tying kits that are designed to catch fish on our local waters. The Golden Retriever and Olive Emerger instructions are to the right.

Scott Young's Golden Retriever Tying Recipe

 Materials list

Hook – Mustad 9672 size 10 streamer hook
Body –Estaz ribbing over Red Rayon Floss
over lead wire or bead head
Tail – Tan Marabou
Head – Red 3/0 Danville thread or Bead


Tying instructions:
1. If using a bead thread it on the hook
1a. Place the hook in the vice securely
2. Attach the thread and wind back to the bend
just above the barb.
2a. If weighting with lead wire tie in the lead
at the bend and wind it over the hook to the eye
2b. Secure the lead with thread ending at the bend
3. Secure a marabou tail over the barb(1x the hook length)
4 Skip wind the thread forward over the marabou butts
to the hook eye and trim the marabou.
5. Smooth the body back and forth with thread
6. Bring the thread to the bend and attach the Estaz
7. Wind the thread back to the eye and attach all four
strands of floss.
8. Wind the floss back and forth and make a smooth floss
body securing it with thread at the eye.
9. Wind the Estaz forward in 5 even turns
10. Secure the Estaz at the eye behind the bead
or make a tasteful head with thread (if using wire).

Doug's Oliver Emerger Tying Recipe

Doug's Olive Emerger


Materials List
Hook – TMC 2457 size 10-12
Bead – Gold to fit hook size
Thread – Olive 6/0
Tail – Olive Hungarian Partridge
Rib – Sm. Gold Wire
Body- SLF Sculpin or Squirrel Dubbing
Hackle - Olive Hungarian Partridge


Tying instructions:

1. Place the bead on the hook and build a thread dam behind it
(to keep the bead from spinning), then insert hook into the vise
2. Wrap a thread base on the hook
3. Tie in the tail – equal in length to ½ the shank and slightly
past the bend
4. Tie in the wire on the near or far side of the hook
5. Dub the thread and wind forward to form a nice body and tie off
6. Rib the body with 6 turns of wire and tie off
7. Tie in the soft hackle and make 2 turns – tie off.
8. Whip finish and apply head cement
